When Brynn was a baby, her parents noticed she was fussy and would vomit after eating. Several area hospitals couldn't help Brynn and her multiple adverse reactions to different foods.
Then Brynn's parents took her to Loyola University Health System, where she was seen by Dr. Sara Doss, a primary care specialist, and Dr. Joyce Rabbat, a pediatric allergy specialist. The two collaborated on Brynn's care with other Loyola specialists.
Brynn was diagnosed with Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). In this rare condition, certain foods trigger an allergic reaction in the gastrointestinal system, causing a reaction like vomiting and diarrhea. The doctors came up with a long-term plan that helped Brynn's family manage her allergies. Today, Brynn is growing, gaining weight and enjoying some of her favorite foods.
