Mia was born more than three months premature, weighing just 2 pounds, 5 ounces. While still an infant, she developed a serious infection in her bowel called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and surgeons had to remove part of her digestive track.
Mia spent six months in Loyola's Level II neonatal intensive care unit and much of the first two years of her life getting care at the Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital. Mia's parents say the nursing care they got at Loyola really helped them through this challenging time. Now Mia's health is "perfect," her mother says.
