Sr. Monique Bourget, IM, is a member of the Religious Congregation of Santa Marcelina. Canadian-born, she graduated with a degree in Medicine and Residency in Family Medicine and Community (MFC) from McGill University (1992). She has her Masters in Epidemiology in the Department of Preventive Medicine, from the Federal University of São Paulo (1999). She has been coordinating the Family Health Program of Santa Marcelina (255 teams) since 1996. It has expanded greatly in recent years to other healthcare units, such as mental health, specialties, and dental health, between others. As part of this partnership, there are now 113 health care services, and more than 6,500 employees for a population of over 2.5 million people.
She first worked in a secondary care hospital, Itaim Paulista, and is now Medical Director of the Hospital of the Sisters of Santa Marcelina, a hospital of 720 beds. It is a teaching hospital, maintaining 42 specialty programs and more than 300 residents. It is the main health reference for the same territory covered by the healthcare units in the east zone of the city of São Paulo. 2012 marked the institution's opening of a Medical School: the Medical Faculty of Santa Marcelina. By 2018 they will have their first graduates.
Sr. Monique's interests include humanizing obstetrics, implantation and consolidation of the family health program, as well as integration between primary healthcare and tertiary care.
