SoKo performs “Fire Dance” (Danse du feu) choreographed by Jody Sperling for the French feature film "The Dancer" (La Danseuse, Dir. Stephanie Di Giusto 2016). The film is a visually sumptuous drama set amidst the opulence of La Belle Époque Paris that charts the saga of modern dance icon and theater technologist Loie Fuller. Sperling’s “Lily Dance” epitomizes the spectacular dance style “La Loie” created.
A New York-based dancer-choreographer, Sperling is internationally-renowned as the leading expert on Fuller’s dance. She served as creative consultant for “The Dancer”, choreographed Fuller’s dances, and coached SoKo intensively for several weeks, teaching her how to embody the challenging role of a dancer.
"La Danseuse" premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category and garnered 6 César Award nominations, including a win for Best Costume Design.
